Accommodation in Austria We focus our attention on the pretty Austrian village of Veihhofen, very close to the ski areas of Saalbach/Hinterglemm, in the heart of Salzburgerland. Ideal for walkers and lover of the outdoors. Veihhofen is at a height of 865m surrounded by the Gernkogel, Schmitt & Sausteige Mountains rising to 2,175m. The apartment is just a 100 m away from several restaurants/bars offering local food and wine, a well stocked supermarket. There is also a bank with an ATM, a bus stop connecting to all the local villages in the valley, a tourist information office and mountain bike hire, tennis, quad biking, fishing, white water rafting are all available nearby. A walking map of the area is available from us in advance or from the local tourist office in Veihhofen. Gondola's and chairs lifts taking you to the top of the mountains are open from June through to the end of September. All walks are clearly marked on and off the map, there are an abundance of pretty mountain restaurants/bars to stop at or simply enjoy the views with your picnic. Close by is the town of Zell-am-see overlooking the Glacier blue lake its bustling with sophisticated shops cafe's & restaurants . At the lake you can sunbath or swim in the summer months, in Zell and Saalbach there are very clean outdoor pool, on the lake there is sailing, windsurfing, boat trips or simply take half a day to walk round the lake taking in the magnificent scenery. If you fancy a bit of pampering the fabulous Grand Hotel in Zell am See has a wonderful Spa and health club, available to non-residents or nearby there is the purpose built Tauern Spa with its 7 pools and treatment rooms. The Kaprun Kitzsteinhorn Glacier at 3,203m is just 15 km away. You can take a Cable car to summit where there is a new visitor’s centre/restaurant. It is here that you can even ski in summer or walk back to Kaprun on the many marked mountain paths. The Glacier is open all the year round except May & October. This area of Austria is truly renowned for its beauty and splendour all the year round, whether you are a summer or winter sports enthusiast.
