Take a voyage north
to the breathtaking, rugged scenery of Sutherland in the far north-west
of Scotland. It was the Vikings who gave the county of Sutherland its
name & true to their Norse ancestry, the original settlers loved to pass
on stories, and there is hardly a hill, loch or bay in the area which
does not boast its own ghost or legend. Although we have not so far met
any of these spectral residents, we have witnessed the breathtaking
Northern Lights, and joined in when locals stopped work to watch whales
playing in the waters beneath the cliffs. Perhaps you too will be lucky
…
To explore beautiful
Sutherland you need somewhere lovely to stay. Craigmor (sleeps 8) and
Cranstackie (sleeps 4) lie in the village of Durness, a thriving
crofting community surrounded by magnificent mountains, a rugged
coastline and wide unpolluted beaches. Ceannabeinne (sleeps 4) is just a
few minutes drive along the coast from the village overlooking a
beautiful beach
With magnificent
mountains, a rugged coastline and wide unpolluted beaches... Sutherland
is the perfect self catering holiday destination.
The area offers: Superb hill and mountain walking - Salmon, trout and
sea fishing - An abundance of hill lochs - Magnificent, unpolluted
beaches - Nine-hole golf links - Welcoming pubs and restaurants |

Outstanding,
spacious 4 star holiday apartments on a cliff top in Cullercoats
conservation area . Let weekly and open all year. Set in private lawned
gardens on a unique Victorian pedestrian crescent, overlooking unspoilt
Brown's Bay, you are just minutes to Whitley Bay and Tynemouth (both
with blue flag beaches), and only 25 mins by Metro to Newcastle. As
winners of the silver Green Tourism award the owners have adopted
Brown's Bay as part of the marine conservation scheme and are committed
to helping preserve this natural environment. There are golf courses

still a strong tradition of fishing and angling here; Cullercoats is
a picturesque yet working fishing village with fishing cobles still
going out daily as they have done for hundreds of years and a strong
tradition of angling from the beaches and North Shields. The! Lifeboat
Station and Dove marine laboratory are just around the corner in
Cullercoats Bay. We are at the start of the Coast to Coast cycle route
and there are a range of great coastal walks right outside your door.
We are also conveniently located for Hadrian's Wall country, and just 5
minutes to Segedunum, the final Roman fort on the wall, at Wallsend.
But if all of that sounds a bit energetic, just relax with a cup of
coffee on the window seats and watch the boats come in, or the seals
playing, from your window |

The Red Pump Inn is
one of the oldest inns in the Ribble Valley, (rumoured to have been
built before 1756) and nestles happily in the quaint hamlet of Bashall
Eaves just on the skirts of the Forest Of Bowland, an Area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty. Enjoying truly panoramic views of
spectacular countryside, the Red Pump Inn inn can be enjoyed right
through the year
We love food…. Sand
the small team at the Inn are boringly passionate about good food.
We have accumulated some foody accolades over the last few years….. and
the Inn is wholly approved and commended by the award winning Taste
Lancashire scheme with the Highest Quality Assured Award by Taste
Lancashire & we are also an approved food provider and proud members of
the Ribble Valley Food Trail and is hand selected by the AA Good Pub
Guide 2008/9 and 10 and Alastair Sawday's Special Places To Stay Guides
2008, 2009 and 2010, The Best Pubs and Inns of Britain and of course The
Michelin Guide 2009 and 2010……to name but a few!
The menu at the Red
Pump Inn changes to reflect the seasons and the whims of the owners and
chefs, but is always true to good gutsy flavour. The full menu is
supported by the daily specials' board which usually houses a swiftly
changing choice of just that; "specials".
We offer
Really Great Beers - local, regional and national cask conditioned ales
cared for quite lovingly by owner Jonathan's obsession with great beers
served well are always on offer. The entry into the 2010 CAMRA Guide
justifies his obsession. So, think roaring fire and pint of cask ale;
Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Black Sheep and Moorhouses to name but a few
of the regular hand pulls on offer! Four hand pulls are available at the
inn and as a
freehouse we can pick and choose what beers and wines we wish and they
vary from well known excellent names to very special prestige limited
availability wines.
We offer Really Great
Accommodation - three sumptuous guest bedrooms, for when the roaring
fire, good food and ales make the trip home just too tough
The whole ethic at the Red Pump Inn is a relaxed, informal, and friendly
gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

After your busy
day exploring the area you will need to relax and unwind – where better
than the Royal Oak, a traditional country inn set in the heart of
Braithwaite.
The Royal Oak has
been in Braithwaite far longer than its current owners, who took over a
very old and tired pub in 1991. Since then the pub has undergone two
major refurbishments, the last creating 10 en-suite bedrooms to become a
welcoming country inn with log fires in winter, oak beams and very
friendly staff. Food at the Oak is in keeping with the style and demand
of its customers. Food at the Oak is in keeping with the style and
demand of its customers – hearty portions of traditional pub food served
in either the bar area or the non smoking restaurant. Full English
breakfast is served every morning to both residents and non residents
and packed lunches can be provided for those heading out onto the fells.
The Royal Oak thrives on being a busy pub in a small village, as well as
the extensive bar menu it is also home to a host of real ales all brewed
by local brewer Jennings Brothers. It is said that it’s the extra things
that count and at the Oak managers Joe, Caroline and all their team will
go out of their way to provide these. The small things such as drying
facilities for wet clothes, special dietary food or the allowance of
dogs in some rooms may not be paramount for everyone but they are for
others. Indeed if there is anything that you require, let us know and we
will do our best to accommodate you at the Oak |

At Watermouth
Cove we have a pretty complex of eight cottages. Once the stables and
coach house of Watermouth Castle, they were converted to holiday
accommodation 30 years ago.
Watermouth Cove
Cottages are situated beside the castle grounds, just 200 yards from the
harbour and South West coastal path. The cottages are set in a wooded
valley and surrounded by lovely Devon countryside.
The cottage
grounds are a haven for a wide range of wild life including Squirrels,
Foxes and many birds such as Woodpeckers, Jays, Goldfinches, Nuthatches
as well as the usual Robins and Blue Tits. Buzzards often soar over the
cottages and Egrets have been visiting the Castle pond regularly this
Summer.
